Saudi Arabia has unveiled plans for a remarkable construction project far beyond the scale of anything seen before.

The Middle-East certainly doesn’t shy away from building things big; the Burj Khalifa, for instance, is the tallest building in the world – standing over Dubai at an incredible 2,717 ft in height.

Now Saudi Arabia has revealed plans for something even more audacious – a horizontal skyscraper consisting of two 1,600ft buildings (that’s taller than the Empire State building) running parallel to one another for 75 consecutive miles and with a population exceeding that of a small country.

This incredible structure, which would cost over $1 trillion, would essentially be a self-contained city complete with a transportation network, greenhouses for growing food, shops, houses, parks, recreational facilities and everything else needed to live and work there.

Known as the Mirror Line, the proposed building will stretch from the Gulf of Aqaba, through a mountain range and out in to the desert.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reportedly wants this enormous project to be completed by 2030, however experts have suggested that it would actually take up to 50 years to build.

Suffice to say, don’t place any bets on this one ever becoming a reality.
