A mysterious individual has taken exception to a bakery’s decision to name one of its sandwiches ‘Cheesus Christ’.

The peculiar complaint was received by The Bridge Bakehouse in Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire which offers a variety of sandwiches with pun-infused names such as the cringe-inducing “don’t go bacon my heart” and the even more groan-worthy “are you chicken me out?”.

Not everyone has seen the funny side, however, especially concerning the bakery’s religious-themed “Cheesus Christ” sandwich.

An individual claiming to be a member of a Christian group was so incensed by the naming of this particular sandwich that they wrote a letter threatening legal action.

“Our members have instructed us to write to you to ask you to remove the sandwich name Cheesus Christ from your menu,” the letter reads. “Although our clients would prefer to [settle] this matter out of the courts, there is clearly a case to answer here.”

The letter’s author has even set out a list of demands requiring the bakery’s owners to not only remove the name, but also to issue a public apology and donate money to the church.

Upon investigation, however, it turned out that the church had nothing to do with the letter at all.

“It seems it was from an anonymous disgruntled member of the local community,” the bakery wrote.

“We would still love to find out who it was and if they had anything to do with the recent vandalism of our menu board.”

“We really can’t be bothered contacting the council to check the CCTV and if it wasn’t done in the dead of night by someone dressed like The Mask of Zorro we are going to be highly disappointed.”
