Jared Isaacman and his crew will be launching on a five-day trip to the final frontier later this year.

It wasn’t that long ago that manned space travel was a pursuit reserved only for highly trained astronauts through multi-billion dollar state-backed space programs.

We are fast entering an age however in which just about anyone with a big enough bank balance can venture into the final frontier – as evidenced once again recently with the announcement that billionaire Jared Isaacman – who already achieved a three-day orbital flight courtesy of SpaceX last year – will be again venturing into the heavens in a bid to travel further from the Earth than any human has done since the days of the Apollo program.

For the mission, which is slated for November, he will also be joined by two SpaceX employees – Anna Menon and Sarah Gillis – as well as Scott Poteet, a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel.

It is understood that Isaacman and Elon Musk split the cost of the mission between them and that, during the trip, there will be an actual spacewalk using the firm’s own spacesuits.

There are even plans for two more flights beyond this one aboard the SpaceX Starship spacecraft.

Suffice to say, it should be an interesting year for the private space industry.
