The bovine duo certainly weren’t feeling the Christmas spirit when they did a runner from a chapel last week.
The bizarre escape, which occurred at the Seaside Chapel in the community of Carolina Beach in North Carolina, happened during a live Nativity scene involving a number of farmyard animals.
Seemingly fed up with the performance, the two cows fled from the chapel, jumped into a shallow part of the Cape Fear River and attempted to make a break for the opposite bank.
It wasn’t long before local police officers had become involved in attempting to capture the beasts.
“When you’re a police officer in a small island community, you may get some unusual calls,” the Carolina Beach Police Department wrote on Facebook.
“Such was the case yesterday as officers from the CBPD were dispatched to assist the CB State Park Rangers with rounding up some loose cows! The subjects escaped their pen at Seaside Chapel where they were performing in the live nativity scene.”
“After ending up in the Cape Fear River, the cows were eventually corralled by officers and rangers with assistance by community members and a K9 with specialized herding skills.”
“We are thankful for all efforts to achieve a happy ending!”
