Hoppy Urban Brew has revealed its latest creation, however it is unclear how many people will actually drink it.

We’ve seen some unusual types of alcoholic beverage over the years, but this unique blue-colored beer, which is made using algae with a naturally-occurring pigment, is perhaps the strangest yet.

Known as ‘Line’, the beer was created through a collaboration between French firm Etika Spirulina – which grows the algae – and Hoppy Urban Brew (HUB) – which produces beer.

The idea was to make the beverage more distinct – and it certainly seems to have worked.

“It’s getting an enormous amount of interest and curiosity on the part of the public,” said HUB employee Sebastien Verbeke.

The algae using in the drink is called spirulina and is typically used in dietary supplements.

According to HUB employee Mathilde Vanmansart, the resulting beer is “hoppy, light, and with fruity notes”, while the algae itself is undetectable save for the unique coloration.

Whether ‘Line’ is likely to become a popular choice for consumers however remains to be seen.
