In 1978 a young man vanished with his airplane over the waters off southern Australia while there was a large “aircraft” with four bright lights below him that air traffic control said did not appear on radar. George Simpson has more than a passing interest in this enigma as he saw the Cessna involved pass over his home that day. Host Martin Willis has Simpson tell the Valentich story, which he’s just published in Nothing on Radar: The Valentich Mystery. Simpson wants to correct the inaccuracies and debunking slurs explaining this 44-year-old puzzler. Ben Hurle tackles an even older Australian conundrum in UPA – Fernvale 1927 in New South Wales. Hurle’s Unexplained Phenomena Australia episode shows that this little-known case possesses elements still present in UFO lore. A strange light performing odd nocturnal aerial acrobatics, cattle and pigs terrorized and killed, a man frightened out of his wits by an “apparition” in the form of a giant bird, and a cylinder-shaped hissing and lighted, domed aerial object, and much more—the frightening tales much later related cry out for some independent corroboration.
