Unable or unwilling to get it done professionally, one Brazilian man decided to take matters into his own hands.
There are a lot of skills that you can learn by looking up a guide on the Internet, but performing complex surgical procedures definitely isn’t one of them.
This didn’t deter one adventurous individual from Brazil earlier this month, however, when he decided to attempt plastic surgery on his own nose using nothing but household items and a video he found on YouTube.
Unsurprisingly, it wasn’t long before he ended up in hospital.
According to doctors at the Campo Limpo Emergency Care Unit, the man’s wound had become infected because he hadn’t worn any gloves and his makeshift tools were not sterilized.
He had seemingly dosed himself up on veterinary anesthetic, attempted to disinfect the area with rubbing alcohol and had used superglue to close the wound afterward.
Fortunately, doctors were able to clean up and sort the wound to prevent further problems, however it remains unclear whether or not the man was satisfied with the result of his efforts.
The incident has been used to highlight the dangers of attempting surgical procedures on yourself – especially those relying upon DIY plastic surgery videos on YouTube.
The man was in fact quite fortunate to still be alive.
