What really happens during a near-death experience ? Image Credit: CC BY-SA 3.0 erpete
A man who caught Covid during the early days of the pandemic almost died and had a very vivid experience.
Exactly what happens when we die remains perhaps the single biggest unanswered question of the human condition, yet there are those who remain convinced that they’ve seen a glimpse of it.
Randy Shiefer is one of a growing number of people to come forward with details of a near-death experience that they’d had after contracting Covid during the pandemic.
Shiefer had developed pneumonia and was deteriorating rapidly when doctors made the decision to place him in a medically-induced coma.
It was during this time that he described feeling his “consciousness awakening” and recalled moving along a tunnel that was encased in a “beautiful, warm, loving light”.
“I remember, suddenly, I look over my shoulder, and this big, beautiful white staircase rose up into the sky as far as you could see,” he said.
“And I said, if I can get onto that staircase, maybe somebody will find me.”
He climbed up the staircase until someone shouted “there’s Randy” and grabbed him.
“When they whisked me off those steps, I remember it going black, back to my little dark, sedated world,” he said.
Could this experience have been a product of chemicals within his brain or did he really go to some other place for a brief time before returning to the world of the living ?
You decide.
