The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has announced its intent to begin researching UAPs “early in the fall.” Underscoring the contention that “There is no evidence UAPs are extra-terrestrial in origin,” the early June 9th press release promoted a media teleconference that started at 1pm that day, Eastern time. That press event was led by NASA associate administrator for science Thomas Zurbuchen and introduced astrophysicist David Spergel and NASA’s Daniel Evans, who will respectively lead the study team and coordinate with NASA. Highlights included NASA’s independence from the DOD effort; emphasis upon science, collecting already available data, and suggestions for data improvement; likely civilian participation; transparency; and improving UAP credibility and reducing reporting stigma. Audio of the media event is available at NASA to Discuss New Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Study Today. The approximately nine-month data study is intended to be capped by a report and recommendations for a research program. The timing of the announcement and elements of the media event are interesting in view of the first House January 6th hearings later that day. (WM)
